Newspaper names and filler sentences are fictional. They are only there for the look of the effect.

Tap a thumbnail to try it. Scroll sideways for blur, highlights, paper, shapes, effects and layouts.

A look sets colors, paper and effects in one go. You can still change everything afterwards.

Understanding the text match cut

A match cut is an editing trick that links two shots through something they have in common. A text match cut links frames through a word: it keeps the same position and size in each frame while the text around it is replaced.

Your eyes lock onto the word that stays put, which makes the changing text around it feel like a rapid flicker of pages. You will see it in reel intros, title cards, lyric edits and name reveals.

This online tool creates the clippings, softens the area around your highlighted word and records a ready-to-post video that also drops easily into any editing app.

Why use it

Built for speed and simplicity

Open the page and begin. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

Private

Everything you type and create is processed on your device. We never receive your words or your videos.

18 looks

Crumpled paper, kraft, dark web pages, torn clippings, ransom notes and more, each with its own font and highlight style.

Up to 4K

Choose HD, 2K or 4K when you download. Bigger files are redrawn at full resolution so the text never looks soft.

Phone-first layout

A pinned preview, large buttons and a fixed bottom bar keep everything within thumb reach.

Tempo control

Choose paper tick sounds, accelerate toward the end, hold the last frame and loop the preview to find your tempo.

Your own style

Bring your own text or a photo of your own paper, tweak colors and shapes, and shuffle until you are happy.

  4. Download

Pick HD, 2K or 4K and wait for the progress ring to complete.

Tips

Pro tips

Little adjustments that make a big difference to the final clip.

  • Use a short word. It leaves more of the surrounding clipping visible.
  • Pick a format for where it will play. Vertical 9:16 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, wide 16:9 for YouTube, square or 4:5 for feeds.
  • Start around 140 ms per clipping. Much faster feels messy and much slower loses the snap. Speeding up toward the end adds energy.
  • Stay high-contrast. A highlight that stands out from the paper is easy to read on any screen.
  • HD for posting. Use 2K or 4K when you plan to edit, crop or zoom in later.
FAQ

FAQ

What is a text match cut?
A short video where one word stays in exactly the same place and size while the text around it changes from clipping to clipping, so the word looks like it jumps between different newspaper pages.
Is this tool free to use?
Yes, completely. There is no account, no watermark and no cap on videos. Ads keep the site running.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. The word you type, your settings, any paper image you choose and the finished video are handled inside your own browser. We never receive them.
Which resolutions can I export?
HD (1080p), 2K (1440p) and 4K (2160p). The number is the short side of the frame, so a square 4K video is 2160 by 2160 pixels. Options your device cannot handle are greyed out in the export window.
Why does the export take as long as the video?
The video is recorded in real time from the preview. A five second video takes about five seconds to record, plus a short extra rendering step for 2K and 4K. Keep the tab open and visible until the progress ring finishes.
Which file format do I get?
MP4 where your browser can record it, otherwise WebM. Most editors and social apps accept both. Recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari are supported.
Can I use my own sentences or paper?
Yes. In step 1 open Use your own sentences, and in step 3 choose Paper and colors to upload a photo of any paper. Both stay on your device.
The preview is slow on my phone. What can I do?
Keep Preview quality on 540p, use fewer clippings and close other tabs. The exported video is rendered separately at the size you choose, so it stays sharp even when the preview is small.
